This is the home page of Tim Challis of Todmorden, West Yorkshire.

 

In my web space you can find examples of the work I do, and of some of the activities and interests I have.  In time, my space will include genealogical information about the Challis family itself, and also the outcomes of my research into the history of Gaddings Dam and its builders, the Fieldens of Todmorden.

 

Read details of my footpath claim in 2001 which connected a bridleway with the Rochdale Canal towpath, and of the historical information it uncovered about Stoodley Bridge and Eastwood.

No web page of mine would be complete without at least something about fishing.  I've included a few of my better catches on my Fishing Page - no true monsters, but they've all been good fun to catch (and, mostly, to put back afterwards!).

My grandfather Ernest Harwood, who was born in Castleford, West Yorkshire, in 1910, served as personal clerk to Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery during much of the Second World War.  His photograph collection includes pictures of Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Francis de Guingand, General 'Ike' Eisenhower, and King George VI, as well as of Monty himself.  Some of these photographs were given to him by Montgomery, others are his own pictures.
